Chilton County, Alabama, residents will soon have a county courthouse that’s easier to navigate and better able to serve their needs. Construction is underway on the new Chilton County Courthouse on Alabama Highway 145. Chilton County officials, general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie and architecture firm Birchfield Peneul Architects recently gathered near the construction site for a ceremonial groundbreaking.
The approximately 72,000 sq ft courthouse will provide essential services and operations, including courtrooms, support areas, licensing and administrative offices. It will occupy six acres of a 13-acre county-owned plot, with the remaining acreage reserved for future expansion. The entire project, including construction of highway access, will cost up to $32 million.
Brasfield & Gorrie is the project’s general contractor, and site work is well underway.
“We’re honored to bring our significant experience in government construction to Chilton County. Brasfield & Gorrie has been headquartered in Alabama since its start, 60 years ago, and we’re passionate about building strong communities—especially in the places we call home.”
Vice President and Division Manager Sara Beth Wilcox
“We are thrilled to partner with Chilton County and Brasfield & Gorrie on the new courthouse project,” said Russ Realmuto, associate principal at Birchfield Penuel Architects. “Our goal is to create a modern, functional and welcoming courthouse—a space that not only meets the needs of today but also anticipates the growth and future potential of the community. This project represents a meaningful investment in the people of Chilton County, and we are honored to help shape a civic building that will serve as a cornerstone for years to come.”
The project is scheduled for completion in early 2026.
